Original BTC founder Peter Bowles finds inspiration everywhere from an antique lamp used to keep chicks warm to industrial factory fittings. In the case of his Stirrup Collection (2000), the inspiration came from a searchlight on the back of a toy lorry (the British term for truck). The Stirrup 3 Wall Lamp features a cast aluminum wall plate for wall mounting. With a pivoting shade supported by a stirrup-shaped bracket, this light allows you to direct the light where you need it, and the etched glass diffuser provides soft, ambient light. Attention to detail is at the heart of every Original BTC collection, right down to the braided cord. This detail, which is one of Original BTC's best-loved design features, was designed by Peter, who snipped the cord off the family iron (adding a wrinkle to marital bliss) when it gave him an idea for something better than an ordinary plastic cord. Stirrup is UL Listed and suitable for commercial spaces. Bulb (not included): 100W/GLS/E26. Made in England.

Drawn to the translucency and versatility of bone china, Peter Bowles saw an opportunity to create something other than tableware with this time-honored material. The result is his Hector Collection (1992), which is beautifully crafted of hand-cast bone china. Creating these lights involves a highly skilled, labor-intensive process that begins with raw clay and ends with biscuit firing, glazing, glossing and firing again. When lit, these china shades have a translucent glow that allows for warm diffused light. Attention to detail is at the heart of every Original BTC collection, right down to the braided cord, which was designed by Peter and can be found on every light his company makes. The Hector Collection is UL Listed and suitable for contract use. Bulb (not included): 40W/GLS/E26. Made in England.

Saving a factory and helping the employees keep their jobs was not something Peter Bowles thought he'd be doing when he designed his first bone china light. The story begins in Stoke-on-Trent, the heart of the British ceramics industry, where its prized porcelain has been produced for more than three centuries. Bowles convinced a tableware factory to produce his first design, but as the orders started to come in, he learned the factory would be closing. Rather than moving production overseas, Bowles bought the factory and offered the entire staff new jobs with his company, Original BTC. The Drop 1 Pendant (2000) is beautifully crafted of hand-cast bone china. Creating these lights involves a highly skilled, labor-intensive process that begins with raw clay and ends with biscuit firing, glazing, glossing and firing again. When lit, the shade has a translucent glow that allows for warm diffused light. Attention to detail is at the heart of every Drop 1 Pendant, right down to the braided cord, which was designed by Peter and can be found on every light his company makes. Drop is UL Listed and suitable for contract use. Bulbs (not included): 40W/120V/E26. Made in England.

When designer Peter Bowles discovered a mold for an industrial-style light, he was inspired to recreate it, but in a way that would work in a variety of settings. Although the designer of the original fixture (circa 1940) is unknown, Bowles was determined to stay true to its shape and quality, while also updating it in ways that are more eco-friendly. Referring to his lights as "beautifully unprocessed," all of Bowles' aluminum shades and bases are hand spun from sheet metal in the heart of the U.K.'s metal-working industry, and sent to Oxford for assembly. His factory is committed to its green practices, and in reducing the use of petrochemicals as much as they can. The lighting provided by the Titan Pendant (1995) is mostly downward focused, but there's some uplighting as well, and the frosted wired glass diffuser allows you to enjoy the energy-savings of compact fluorescent bulbs without sacrificing the soft, warm ambient lighting you're looking for. The Titan is UL Listed and suitable for commercial spaces. Bulb (not included): compact fluorescent or incandescent 100W (max). Made in England.
