Simple black skirt with a twist
This skirt surprised me. I worried the zipper down the center front would look like it belonged in the back. However, I raised the bottom zipper pull slightly (it's a two-way zipper) to create a slightly sexy front slit. When fully closed, the zipper and its pulls blend in so it looks like a plain black, straight skirt.
The hem is a couple inches above my knees. [Thank you, Bluefly, for listing skirt length!] With long legs and broad shoulders, I favor flared skirts, to balance my top half. Though straight, this skirt shows enough leg to distract/balance.
The main reason I bought this was it's 100% silk. Even the pockets are silk lined. The pockets concerned me. Some pockets' linings don't drop down, so if you put something in them, it falls out. These pocket linings drop down, so you can use them. The pocket lining fabric is delicate, so I won't be putting keys in there.
The pockets are at the correct height for me! My arms are slightly bent when I stick my hands in the pockets. It's like this thing was made for petites! You know how hard it is to find a short silk skirt with correctly placed pockets when you're a petite?
The body of the skirt is a lightweight silk twill. I've never had a piece in this fabric. I've been looking for simple, thin, silk items to wear to job interviews on hot days but that I can also wear for fun. I wore this for eight hours yesterday, to the movies, to dinner, to a friend's house. Most of the time I was sitting. Today the back of the skirt is barely rumpled. I'll pack this when I travel.
I got this in a 2, and it was the correct size. I'm usually a 2 in petites at J. Crew.
I got great customer service from Bluefly on this order. After purchasing, I got a sale email. When I clicked through, the skirt was less than I had paid! My order hadn't even arrived! When I asked, I got a refund on the difference. It was only a few dollars, not even enough to cover shipping, but every shopping dollar is precious.
